Treatment of Eye Disease
If you are diagnosed with an eye disease, such as pinkeye, you want only the best treatment available to get your eyes healthy again. At Sierra Vista Optometry, we offer only the best. Based on your diagnosis, we may recommend a wide variety of approaches, including prescription medicines, therapy and vision exercises, or medical procedures
The Macula Risk is a DNA cheek swab, done at the doctors discretion, that tells us over a ten year span how bad a person’s macular degeneration can become and how to supplement to slow the effects. The swab itself is done in office and only takes a few minutes. Then the swabs are sent to a lab and in less than two weeks results are sent back to us. At that point you would be asked to come back in for doctor to review the results with you.
Children's Vision Evaluation
Before your child is one year old, you should take your baby to your doctor of optometry for his or her first thorough eye examination. Things that the optometrist will test for include excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism and eye movement ability as well as eye health problems. These problems are not common, but it is important to identify children who have them at this stage. Vision development and eye health problems can be more easily corrected if treatment is begun early. Unless you notice a need, or your doctor of optometry advises you otherwise, your child’s next examination should be around age three, and then again before he or she enters school. Remember, a child’s vision evaluation is very different from that of adults. The doctors at Sierra Vista Optometry are trained to work with infants and children to use and interpret objective tests to determine your child’s overall visual system.
Low Vision Evaluation
Low vison, or partial sight, is a visual condition which cannot be corrected by conventional eyeglasses or contact lenses. Low vison is the third most commonly occurring physical impairment in those over 65 exceeded only by heart disease and arthritis. Low vison rehabilitation is the evaluation and treatment of individuals with low vision. Based on each patient's individual lifestyle needs, solutions are sought to help the patients achieve their visual goals which may include the recommendation of optical and non-optical devices known as "Low Vision Aids". The testing procedures are different than a "routine eye exam" and the tests that have been done by your referring doctor are not generally duplicated. Low vison rehabilitation will not restore your lost sight. We will, however, try to help you to maximize your remaining functional vision.
